Week three was not quite as eventful as week two, however, there were still some crazy finishes and a few upsets along the way.
On Friday night, Florida State played in Louisville and after an injury to their starting quarterback, scored 14 unanswered points to storm back and take the victory, 35-31. The Seminoles are now 3-0 for the first time since 2015. Then on Saturday, chaos unfolded in Boone, North Carolina. Appalachian State was losing to Troy, when as time expired they heaved a hail Mary towards the endzone. The jump ball was tipped and then caught and run in for the walk off win. App State seems to be the favorites in the Sun Belt this season. Notre Dame almost dropped their third straight game, but a late touchdown put them ahead and they eventually held on to win 24-17. The jet lagged MSU Spartans looked sloppy until the fourth quarter, where they put up 14 unanswered points to pull within 11, they would end up losing to the surging Washington Huskies, 39-28. LSU also had a late game push but theirs was successful. Brian Kelly earned his first notable win with the Tigers over the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

The biggest winners from week three were the Penn State Nittany Lions. Their run game dominated at Auburn in a tough road game environment. Sean Clifford had some doubters when the season started, but this dominant win at a strong SEC team silenced the haters. Penn State is a legitimate contender in the Big Ten East, and possibly a dark horse College Football Playoff candidate.
